A Special Place

Our town has changed a lot. More people live here. More people want to come here. How do we preserve its unique small town qualities, its rural character and all the things that make it a special place to live? How do we protect it from overdevelopment without hurting those businesses on which we rely? How do we ensure that people who grew up here, who work here, can live here? How do we provide the services necessary for a growing population? How do we make our school the best in Rhode Island? How do we maintain a tax rate and a tax base that we all can live with?

For the past ten or more years these have been the issues before us. For most of those years, it has been Democrats, leading the Town Council and the School Committee, who have answered these questions. Democrats have been willing to give the time and energy necessary to make thoughtful and careful decisions. They have resisted the pressures of special interests. They have stood up to the Governor -- to a few Governors, in fact. They have been pro-active, they have been responsible, they have made decisions.
