The problems Jamestown faces resist easy answers. Preserving what we love about this island, including its natural beauty and its sense of community, will take careful thought and real dialogue with the community.

Politics in Jamestown is about people. The Democrats recognize that a spirit of collaboration -- among town officials and between officials and residents -- is key to our island's success. Our officeholders know that to solve the problems we face today, we must work tirelessly and work together. We all know why we like living in Jamestown: Narragansett Bay out your window or down the street, the view of those farms as you drive over the bridge, a small town where people really do know your name. We have made great strides in preserving some of the things we all love so much. But over the next two years, Jamestown's Town Council will make decisions that will have consequences in our lives for years to come. And so we need to elect leaders who have an understanding of the character of this island, qualified people with roots here, who have shown both their committment to our town and their ability to work with others. We need people who not only bring intelligence and experience to the table, but who will also listen to the ideas and concerns of their fellow Jamestowners.
